Elderly Cyclist Killed in Pickup Crash on Rte 6 in Wellfleet, MA

Wellfleet, MA (July 21, 2026) – An 83-year-old man died on Monday morning, July 20, after he was struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle on Route 6.

The collision happened shortly before 11 a.m. near the intersection of Route 6 and Lieutenant Island Road. The Truro and Eastham police departments, the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team assisted the scene. 

The man was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a 2019 Toyota Tundra driven by a 37-year-old man from New Hampshire. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver stayed nearby and has been cooperating with detectives as they look into what happened. His name has not been released.

The investigation into how the collision occurred remains active.
