Newport, NH – One Person Killed in Head-On Crash on Maple St

Stephen Law Group Injury Lawyers

Newport, NH (December 6, 2025) – A deadly crash occurred on December 5 after two vehicles collided head-on on Maple Street in Newport. The Newport Police Department and Newport Fire Department responded around 3:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision.

First responders arrived and found two heavily damaged vehicles in the roadway. The driver of a Jeep Wrangler was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews checked the second driver for injuries and secured the area to prevent further harm.

Police reported that a Chevrolet Silverado traveled east on Maple Street when it crossed the centerline. The truck then struck the Jeep Wrangler head-on. The Jeep rolled over after the impact, which caused fatal injuries to its driver.

The Silverado’s driver showed signs of impairment. Medics transported him to a hospital, where doctors treated him for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit assisted officers at the scene. Investigators measured tire marks, documented debris, and inspected both vehicles for mechanical issues. They also collected witness statements to understand how the crash occurred. The investigation remains in its early stages, and officials expect to release more information later.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the driver who tragically lost their life in this devastating collision.

Fatal DUI Crashes in Newport

Fatal DUI crashes cause devastation for families and communities across New Hampshire. Towns like Newport see steady traffic on local roads such as Maple Street, which increases the risk of severe collisions. When drivers operate vehicles while impaired, they react slower, drift out of their lanes, and make unsafe decisions that endanger everyone around them. These mistakes often lead to head-on crashes, which remain among the deadliest types of collisions.

New Hampshire continues to report serious injuries and deaths related to impaired driving. Even small towns feel the impact because impaired drivers can appear on any road at any time. Alcohol and drugs can reduce coordination, blur vision, and affect judgment. These effects increase the risk of crossing centerlines or misjudging distance. When a large pickup truck strikes a smaller vehicle head-on, the outcome is often tragic.

Families who lose loved ones in DUI crashes face overwhelming grief and sudden financial strain. Funeral costs, lost income, and unexpected medical bills can pile up quickly. Survivors must also deal with emotional trauma as they try to understand how the crash happened. When another driver acted negligently by choosing to drive impaired, families may seek compensation through a wrongful death claim. Compensation can help cover funeral expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

However, DUI crash investigations can take time. Police often review toxicology reports, analyze road conditions, and reconstruct the collision to determine exactly what occurred. Insurance companies may also attempt to reduce payouts by arguing over liability or questioning the severity of damages. These challenges make legal support important for victims and families.

A skilled personal injury attorney can gather evidence, review police reports, obtain witness statements, and negotiate with insurance adjusters. Attorneys can also help families understand their legal rights and guide them through the claims process. This support can reduce stress during a painful period and help families pursue fair compensation.

Victims of serious crashes should seek medical care and legal guidance as soon as possible. Early action helps preserve evidence and protects their rights throughout the process. Legal guidance also ensures that families receive support while they navigate complex decisions.
