One Dead After Head-On Crash on Rte 16 in Tamworth, NH

Tamworth, NH (August 25, 2026) – A deadly crash took place on Route 16 near Maple Road on Monday afternoon, August 24. Authorities said the vehicles involved two vehicles and left one person dead. 

New Hampshire State Police were called to the road just after 5:00 p.m. A preliminary investigation found that a Subaru Forester traveling north crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Nissan Rogue head-on.

A 46-year-old passenger riding in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were evaluated as a precaution but were not hurt.

The wreck forced the closure of a stretch of Route 16 for about five hours while crews worked at the site. 

It is not clear why the Subaru crossed into the oncoming lane, and the investigation remains ongoing.
