Why Drowsy Driving Crashes Happen in Goffstown, NH
Drowsy driving crashes usually happen when a driver goes without adequate sleep, works long or irregular shifts, or drives during late-night and early-morning hours when the body’s natural sleep cycle takes over. Undiagnosed sleep disorders and certain medications can also increase the risk.
Typically, to determine fault in a drowsy driving case, investigators look at evidence that shows if the driver was impaired by fatigue at the time of the crash, such as statements from witnesses, cell phone records, or a driver’s own admission.
New Hampshire follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which a person can still recover compensation as long as they are not found more than 50 percent at fault for what happened. After this type of crash, people are generally encouraged to seek medical attention promptly, even for injuries that seem minor at first, since some symptoms can take time to appear.
A police report can play an important part in these types of cases, since it documents statements made at the scene, initial observations from officers, and other details that can support a claim later on.
A car accident lawyer can then help review the report alongside other evidence to help establish how a crash happened and who may be responsible. Legal guidance can also help clarify how all this documentation can build a claim destined to recover damages.
