What to Do After a Serious Car Accident in Alton, NH
After being involved in any crash in Alton, medical attention comes before everything else. A doctor’s visit creates a dated record that links treatment to the day of the injury, and some problems, such as concussions or internal bleeding, may not show obvious signs for hours. It is important to keep discharge papers, prescriptions, and follow-up referrals together to make the later review far easier.
Insurers tend to call within days and ask for a recorded statement. It can be wise to stick to basic facts, avoid guessing about speed or distance, and hold off on medical opinions until treatment is further along.
Evidence from a car accident can disappear quickly, so photographs of vehicle damage, the road surface, the weather, and any visible injuries are worth taking as soon as it is safe. Names and numbers for witnesses are just as useful, along with a copy of the official report once it is available.
When a driver’s negligence leads to a fatal outcome, the family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim under New Hampshire law. These claims are brought by the personal representative of the deceased person’s estate, and the filing deadline is typically three years, though the facts can change how it applies.
Damages in these types of claims can include funeral costs, lost income, and other losses recognized under state law. A car accident lawyer can step in to review which of them may apply and how to document them for each specific situation.
When a serious injury on the road leaves a family sorting through medical bills, paperwork, and deadlines, it helps to have the steps laid out in order. At Stephen Law, we can guide families to understand what to document, what to share with insurers, and when a wrongful death claim may be worth discussing.
